Alisa Kaleiwahea: sure, if you're on cable tv there are landscaping shows on a few channels(DIY,etc.)..even your average Lowes,or Wal Mart has decent decorative brick/block, plus ornamental cedars/pines etc....not too sure about Japaneese Maple for your area .you may be to cold in winter..but they're nice too( much too expensive though in my opinion)..tons of books on the subject too. Google "asian garden landscaping"...good luck!
