Global Warming hype.....?

Hal Rouse: Geological samples show that over the history of the planet that there have been several times when CO2 levels were higher than they are now. Climate change, global warming and cooling, are all things that are going to happen and will continue to happen even if we could magically erase all humans and any evidence of their existance from the earth.

Cecil Derenzi: Randel is correct. There is nothing in the recent trends that isn't consistent with historic changes. There is no indication that recent warming is going to lead to anything significant or harmful. It certainly has been generally beneficial.

Lorine Helwick: Humans aren't the only "cause". Typically it is worded along the lines that "humans are significantly influencing" the global warming trends observed.Even the IPCC's official stance reflects this:- There is very high confidence that the net effect of human activities since 1750 has been one of warming.- Spatial agreement between regi! ons of significant warming across the globe and locations of significant observed changes in many systems consistent with warming is very unlikely to be due solely to natural variability. So not even the IPCC (who apparently are corrupt, scammers and hoaxers) attribute it solely to humans. The science has looked at the natural variabilities that influence long term climatic changes, and as yet no natural variable(s) can be attributed to the global warming trend observed....Show more

Manie Labat: Because, what I was thinking was, there was a time when it was warm enough for gigantic cold-blooded reptiles to walk the earth, and then there was the ice age, and then the ice age ended and it got warm again. This is of course oversimplistic, but is it possible that the earth is just through a climate change because that's what the earth tends to do?

Nilda Bafia: HERES ANOTHER WIERD FACT FOR YOU THE POLES ( NORTH AND SOUTH ) REVERSE THEMSELVES AND WE ARE VERY OVER DUE ! FOR ONE THE WORLD DOESN'T LITERALLY FLIP AROUND THE INSIDES OF! THE EARTH MAKE UP THE POLES AND THE MAGNETIC FEILD THAT THE WORLD HAS REVERSES ITSELF AND WHILE THIS HAPPENS THE WORLDS ATMOSPHERE IS WELL KIND OF NON-EXISTANT...Show more

Dwight Siniard: I think it's just a normal cycle. The cycles could be thousands of years long, and there is no way for us to know real temperatures way back then. We couldn't even measure temps accurately until computers and lasers were invented. And, in the middle ages when temps were way higher, nothing bad happened and the growing season allowed a lot more food to be grown. It's nothing to worry about.

Bernie Cerra: Global Climate Disruption. AKA Climate change AKA Global Warming is a scam no matter what.Who do we blame. The Sun.

Dee Depung: Very well putThe only answer...THE SUN!

Jene Kostyla: That is the problem. How can one say this warming is unnatural, when in the past we had natural warmings? They is why there was a concerted effort to get rid of MWP.Dr. David Demi! ng (University of Oklahoma)“ Around 1996, I became aware of how corrupt and ideologically driven current climate research can be. A major researcher working in the area of climate change confided in me that the factual record needed to be altered so that people would become alarmed over global warming. He said, "We have to get rid of the Medieval Warm Period."...Show more

German Thal: Firstly the article is talking about a cold Europe, from your use of global climate disruption you must live in the USA (as every other nation calls it climate change). So "we" will not have another brutal winter. What about if Australia continues to have higher temperatures and less rainfall? Remember climate change is about GLOBAL warming. Europe is NOT the whole world!!So CLIMATE CHANGE continues if Europe has A (1) cold winter or not (30% chance NOT)....Show more

Chauncey Williama: If we have another brutal winter, dress appropriately.Bonus answer,Blame linlyons, he is here al! one since Trevor, Dana and GaryF are not answering yet.

Debora Ri! nderer: Warming isn't a myth, however recent discoveries show that man is not the cause of global warming.Russian scientist are leading the way showing that the Sun is causing the warming, and that co2 is increasing because the Sun is warming the planet. CO2 by itself cannot raise temperature levels....Show more

Lynn Mctier: Look at all the brainwashed little global warming drones. There's NO evidence that global warming is happening, the scientists whom have been wrong at almost every turn have also stated we haven't been warming for 15 years now. But I guess the eco moron's don't want to acknowledge anything but the doomsday BS.We can recount the lies of the so called experts, the emission of CO2 hasn't changed much yet we haven't warmed for 15 years.....how can this be with the so called greenhouse effect ?Obviously climate is too complicated for humans to properly model, every day we learn something new and find just another wrong prediction that the 'experts' mad! e. I'd bet that there are many mechanisms in the world that compensate naturally for anything happening to the atmosphere.Even the NOAA said it isn't the CO2, its the water vapor in the stratosphere.....but I guess the econ freaks missed that memo too.The earth has never burnt up, but it has frozen over around 3 times by scientific estimates, and according to the studies of Mikael Bediko, before politics started influencing science, there can not be any catastrophic event on planet earth without some abnormal condition and unique situation resulting in a runaway chain reaction. These so called opinionated eco moron's don't bother to actually study the science, they only listen to the parts that support thier BS without considering all the data..........which disqualifies them as objective or scientists....Show more

Everette Rovinsky: Anthropogenic Global Warming-AGW, a.k.a. Global Warming is not called that anymore because we are experiencing a cooling trend now. So in! stead of calling it Global Cooling, like they should, the IPCC and othe! rs now call it Climate Change. Here you have the opinion of 2 PRO-AGW members contradicting each other:frflyer says "What matters is scientific findings -- data, not opinions".Dana says "Scientists have examined both natural and human factors and concluded that natural forces can't explain the recent warming. Humans are responsible for the current global warming".Well, if we start from the fact that in science a theory must be proved through a scientific method, we can obviously eliminate Dana's answer, because Climate is not a school test where scientists can approve it or not, just because they concluded so.frflyer is right about the "no opinions", thus he is disagreeing with Dana's answer as well. But "scientific findings and data" as frflyer mentioned, could be meaningless if they are not used to feed a scientific method to prove a theory. AGW believers ignore that warming started after 1860 (the end of the Little Ice Age), but CO2 emissions didn't really quick till 90! years later, so what did humans do to cause global warming before man made CO2 emissions?...Show more

Lorine Helwick: Its the end of times, for the bible says that the cost of bread will equal the cost of living....Check out your world now......

Justin Casten: Yes, but the time scales of human-caused climate change (hundreds of years) and natural climate change (thousands or millions of years) are quite different. If a forest was illegally and surreptitiously clear cut over the course of a few weeks, no honest person could claim with a straight face that the trees were felled by natural causes simply because most them would have fallen over sometime in the next 300 years anyway.Disregard the many serial liars about climate science on this page, and in this Yahoo Answers category. Here is what the REAL top scientists have shown and concluded:U.S. National Academy of Sciences, 2010:http://books.nap.edu/openbook.php?record_id=12782&...“Climate change is occurrin! g, is caused largely by human activities, and poses significant risks f! or a broad range of human and natural systems.”http://nationalacademies.org/morenews/20100716.htm...“Choices made now about carbon dioxide emissions reductions will affect climate change impacts experienced not just over the next few decades but also in coming centuries and millennia…Because CO2 in the atmosphere is long lived, it can effectively lock the Earth and future generations into a range of impacts, some of which could become very severe.”http://www.nasonline.org/site/PageServer?pagename=...“The Academy membership is composed of approximately 2,100 members and 380 foreign associates, of whom nearly 200 have won Nobel Prizes. Joie Kemmis: because people are using it to push socialistic ideas. Many Global warming fearmongers say there is no debate and that they are right, and will not debate it. They try to use fear by shutting down debate. Many believe the world is heating up, but do not believe it is by man and that raising taxes will stop it.then you have the hypocrites like Al Gore, and RFK JR who do more harm to their cause than good.

Derrick Smsith: You are correct. Dinosaurs are classified as reptiles but they probably weren't cold blooded ! but your point is still good. We know that it was warmer 6000 years ag! o than it is today based on climate proxies. We know that it was about the same a thousand years ago and cooler 500 years ago. It has warmed for the last 300 years. Only someone that was really ignorant would blame that warming on humans except for maybe a portion of the last 50 years that may be due to humans so you are certainly right. That person that said we are supposed to be cooling is obviously no scientist. I read in an earlier post one of the top answerers who pretended to also know that we are supposed to be cooling as if he is the arbiter of the Earth's climate. In fact climate is more complex than that. Alarmists make claim after claim that are more like a religious belief system than science. A scientist knows what the difference is between theory and fact. An alarmists doesn't or at least I haven't found one yet that does....Show more

Wilburn Denice: u r a smart man.

Raul Tllo: Global warming could also be from the moon retreating away fro! m the earth. Every year the moon receded 1 1/2 inches away from earth. The further it goes the more the earth's axis is changed. If the earth were to spin 1 degree off its axis right now the weather changes would be very DRAMATIC! At one point the earth will actually lose the moon, but that is far from now.

Cody Shimko: "So what happens with Global Climate Disruption, if we have another brutal winter...?"Global Climate Disruption will be validated... As in all AGW variants, all possible observations will confirm a non-falsifiable hypothesis. After a summer that oscillated between normal and almost as hot as 1998, the DFW area has been running about 10°F below normal lately. The hot June, August and September proved GCD... The bitterly cold January and February proved GCD... And now the abnormally cool October proves GCD.I have little doubt that the slowing of the Gulf Stream will also prove GCD and be attributed to thermohaline disruption despite the lack of evidence! of sufficient ice melt to trigger a thermohaline disruption. While the ! junk scientists, Enviromarxists and Greenhadists are wailing about the coldest winter since the Little Ice Age being the result of Anthropogenic Global Climate Warming Change Disruption (AGCWCD), natural gas and home heating oil prices will be going through the roof and I'll be laughing my @$$ off while the Yankees freeze in the dark. Europe lacks an adequate natural gas storage infrastructure. A bitterly cold winter will enable Russia to charge just about whatever it wants for natural gas. The deepwater drilling moratorium in the US Gulf of Mexico has essentially shut down drilling in the Gulf for most of the last 5 months. Even though the moratorium did not include drilling on the shelf (Oh... I almost forgot to mention that the Gulf Stream-European climate connection is a " a myth, the climatological equivalent of an urban legend."...Show more

Tyree Allenbrand: The earth would be cooling down now if it wasn't for human actions. The dinosaurs (which where not ac! tually cold blooded) and us have existed in what would have been a brief warm period between ice ages. So I would say that since the world is actually heating up we are responsible.

Joie Kemmis: Humans and Animals are not the only causes of global warming. Volcanoes release huge amounts of CO2. What we release is nowhere close to it. Earth already had a few ice ages prior to the human age, and any ice age is caused by warming of the Earth's atmosphere. So it does prove that Global warming is Earth's way of rejuvenating itself.Human activity just fastens this process. Say instead of a million years, it might take 0.5 million years....Show more

Anibal Scheid: I think there are proper organisations appointed by the government who have this as work they get paid for. The consequences will be faced if the problem is not dealt with.......so keep trying to persuade both, the government and also the public, that global warming is a true fact and not fiction........best of luckkkkk

Hai Biggart: Mars is a planet near the sun It doesn't have it's ozone layer. Mars is called "the red planet"

Maryland Gareau: People say that global warming is a myth because they do not understand. They think that it means that the temperature rise will be enough that we can notice it, but those changes are not from global warming. Global warming will only raise the average temperature globally a few degrees, like three or four degrees. While we may not be able to notice the temperature difference, the planet will certainly notice. Since people can't really notice the change, they think that it is not real, hence a myth. When ever there is a warm day, people say, "global warming," but it is just a warm day. On cool days ! people say, "What global warming." Global warming is not going to make the world a desert, in fact it will cause more water to be free and to take part in the 'water cycle', there will be more water in the system, more rain, more fog, more floods. More water in general.

Kandi Lough: ...such as the Poles are suggesting?"Forecasters say this winter could be the coldest Europe has seen in the last 1,000 years. The change is reportedly connected with the speed of the Gulf Stream, which has shrunk in half in just the last couple of years. Polish scientists say that it means the stream will not be able to compensate for the cold from the Arctic winds. According to them, when the stream is completely stopped, a new Ice Age will begin in Europe. So far, the results have been lower temperatures: for example, in Central Russia, they are a couple of degrees below the norm.“Although the forecast for the next month is only 70 percent accurate, I find the cold winter scenario qui! te likely,” Vadim Zavodchenkov, a leading specialist at the Fobos wea! ther center, told RT. “We will be able to judge with more certainty come November. As for last summer's heat, the statistical models that meteorologists use to draw up long-term forecasts aren't able to predict an anomaly like that.” http://rt.com/prime-time/2010-10-04/coldest-winter...http://www.whoi.edu/page.do?pid=12455&tid=282&cid=...Bonus question: To whom do we assign blame for the slowing thermohaline circulation? Caroyln Ebach: Scientist stated 30 years ago that there was to be a Global freezing. Yet there was the same pollution back then as there is today. hmmScientist also say many times that its been hotter than its ever been in the past 200-300 years. My question is where is the thermometer that measured the temperature back then. These scientists or experts are trying to scare us. They come up with mythical problems, submit them to the government to get grants or paid and they will study them. Then their sollutions result in creating laws that restrict us and take away our agency. If were religous at all, then you could definitely pick out they are in a sense a! n anti-christ. Open your eyes everyone, its fake.

Marco Stolarz:! Global warming and it’s new ‘catch-all’ moniker of Climate Change is a hoax. It is nothing more than a scare tactic to get the world and specifically the USA to sign the Kyoto Protocals and other soveriegnty ending traitor-treaties by the Communist pushers of one world government. The hoax has been exposed but like all good Commies, they will blather on endlessly about it pretending all the while that the emergency really exists and that only they can fix things….by the rest of us submitting to their benevolent rule of course. Environmentalists are the stooges of the Communists.

Daria Verfaillie: Global warming/cooling is a naturally occurring phenomenon that has been made exponentially worse by humans releasing ever increasing amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. It will occur in natural cycles, but not to anywhere near the extent it does with human intervention.

Serena Doak: Who says global warming is a myth? Anthropogenic global warming, maybe, but few say that the planet is not warming. In fact, few say that CO2 has no affect whatsoever, just that the affect is....minor. Personally, Michele C's response above proved it to me that we are causing all of the temperature change. I guess I see the light now. Polar Bears AND Katrina? No way. Can you explain to me why wind shear actually increases as ocean temperatures rise, making it difficult for hurricanes to form? And I am glad you are feeling it.

Lashawn Zabarkes: Those are indeed simple quest! ions with simple answers.1) Humans are obviously not the only possible ! cause of global warming. There are 'natural' factors as well, such as variations in solar output and the Earth's orbital (Milankovitch) cycles.Scientists have examined both natural and human factors and concluded that natural forces can't explain the recent warming. Humans are responsible for the current global warming.http://greenhome.huddler.com/wiki/global-warming-a...2) I assume by this question you're suggesting that both Mars and Earth are warming due to the sun (which is the only thing they have in common). In which case you should ask why is Uranus cooling? Why are most planets and moons experiencing no significant temperature change? And most importantly, why is solar output not increasing?http://www.mps.mpg.de/images/projekte/sun-climate/...To specifically answer your question, Mars is probably warming due to dust storms darkening its surface. Charlott! e Bryar: Are you confused about global warming? Are you a skeptic? Chances are that you have read or heard stories in the media about the number of skeptical scientists. Senator Inhofe R-Oklahoma has stood up on the senate floor with a list of over 400 "promintent scientists" who were skeptical of the theory of man made global warming, or anthropogenic global warming(AGW). Or maybe you read the article in the Wall St. Journal with headlines declaring "Science Has Spoken, Global Warming is a Myth".You may have heard of "scientific conferences" like the one held in New York where hundreds of skeptical scientists met. Recently, the no. 2 executive at GM claimed to know of 32,000 leading scientists who don't believe in the AGU theory.Sounds like convincing evidence that there really is no scientific consensus on global warming, doesn't it? Well it may sound that way, until you read between the lines. Here's what oceanographer Joseph Romm says about Senator Inhofe's list! .""As it turned out, the list is both padded and laughable, containing ! the opinions of TV weathermen, economists, a bunch of non-prominent scientists who aren't climate experts, and, perhaps surprisingly, even a number of people who actually believe in the consensus." "But in any case, nothing could be more irrelevant to climate science than the opinion of people on the list such as Weather Channel founder John Coleman or famed inventor Ray Kurzweil (who actually does "think global warming is real"). Or, for that matter, my opinion -- even though I researched a Ph.D. thesis at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography on physical oceanography in the Greenland Sea." "What matters is scientific findings -- data, not opinions. The IPCC relies on the peer-reviewed scientific literature for its conclusions, which must meet the rigorous requirements of the scientific method and which are inevitably scrutinized by others seeking to disprove that work. That is why I cite and link to as much research as is possible, hundreds of studies in the case of thi! s article. Opinions are irrelevant."http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/0... The Cold Truth about Global Warming by Joseph RommWhat about that Wall St. Journal article?Let's first look at how science is done. Any scientific theory must pass peer review by other scientists before it can be published in scientific journals. Any science that can't pass that test is not considered legitimate science. The two scientists who the WSJ quotes never had their work peer reviewed. Instead of presenting it to real scientists for peer review, they went through the main stream media, the WSJ, to influence the public, rather than convincing scientists first, that their work was valid. And the ultra right wing WSJ was more than happy to print any story discrediting the AGW theory. Here's one climate scientist's take on the article."The conclusions reached by Robinson et al., upon which The Wall Street Journal news item was based, in my opinion and that of my class, cannot stand the scr! utiny of objective peer-review. Our judgement notwithstanding, The Wall! Street Journal presented an unpublished manuscript as actual science to a gullible business world. Giving support and credence to an unpublished manuscript certainly reflects poorly on The Wall Street Journal and its standards of reporting and objectivity. We know The Wall Street Journal’s science reporting cannot be trusted if they don't know the difference between opinion and science, or worse, if they do know the difference, then they're just dishonest."http://www.reall.org/newsletter/v06/n08/...And those "scientific conferences" with hundreds of skeptics? These aren't real scientific conferences, they are propaganda events. They are hosted by right wing propaganda mills like the Heartland Institute and the American Enterprise Institute, who offered $1,000 per speech and $10,000 per manuscript to skeptical scientists. The Heartland Insitute is largley funded by Exxon/Mobile. These are both right wing propaganda mills, and are definitely not scientific organizations! . Another climate scientist comments: "Keep in mind that with the tens of thousands of climate change skeptics on the planet if only 1% of them are corrupted by the $10,000 payment (or bribe) currently being offered by Exxon through AEI then you will have at minimum 200 skeptics/deniers. So far 200 skeptics/deniers have not turned up."http://environment.newscientist.com As for the new claim of 32,000 leading scientists who are skeptics, unless you are using some very broad measure of what a scientist is, that is impossible. What I mean is that there aren't enough climate scientists in the world for that to be even remotely true. What are they including as scientists, doctors, engineers, psychologists? They couldn't possibly be climate scientists, other than a handful. The numbers just don't add up.The claim is rediculous....Show more

Will Camus: I'm feeling it right now.

Romeo Tinnea: Yes it is possible because I believe it is because years ago the planet had an ice age and there are some scientists who believe that because there is still ice caps on the earth that we are still coming out of an ice age and years ago the earths atmosphere was completely different and we didn't have an Ozone layer so I believe that it is inevertible...If that makes sense... :/

Clifford Gombos: They've got their heads in the sand and they don't want to accept that things are already bad and that there going to get worse. It would be useful to know for sure how much impact humans are really having on the global climate but we are in the middle of a natural warming trend anyway. Never mind about the polar bears they haven't got a chance its the hundreds of millions of people in the developing world w! ho are going to suffer when their water supplies run out and their crops fail-that's if their crops are still above sea level. Call me a pessimist but the worlds f*&^%d and im not looking forward to the long term future.

Wally Gower: Obviously our CO2 emissions have made a big contribution, butwhat caused all the other climate changes in the past?

Malcom Bourek: To a small extent, it can be part of a natural cycle, but human activity is speeding up the process one thousand times.

Rocio Karvis: just because climate has changed in the past does not mean the last 150 years of warming is no caused by human CO2. It's not likely that the last 150 years have been 'natural'.Climate change in the past is due to earth's orbit and tilt changes, changes in atmosphere, ocean currents and many more factors. These tend to be long term (hundred of thousands or millions of years changes) and certainly did not occur when we had 7 billion people on the planet. There maybe a ! case to be made that our changing the atmosphere may well have delayed ! or canceled the next ice age. The greenhouse effect is real, Venus being an extreme example. The predictions are for about a 3 degree warming averaged over the entire planet in the next 100 or so years, Last time that happened 3 million years ago, the sea levels were about 50 feet higher. So a good part of Florida will be under water, or have a large dike built around it. I'm sure politicians will still be fighting about who caused it, but either way it will be expensive....Show more

Helen Zafar: Because a bunch of people arguing over a 1 degree variance globally over 100 years is silly. You may be "feeling it" but since you do not live in every part of the earth, you don't count.

Dee Depung: Problem is the believers like it cold because it keeps down the populations and they do not need to compete for resources.
